Application Guide for USTB International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

Introduction of USTB

University of Science and Technology Beijing was founded in 1952 and has developed into one of the most influential key national universities in china. Its main focus is on engineering, while maintaining a balanced program consisting of science, management, humanities, economics and law.

USTB is part of the 211 Project, which is designed to develop a hundred first rate universities in the 21st century. In 2006, USTB was selected as the “Platform for National Advanced Disciplines Innovation” program. In 2014, the “collaborative innovation center of steel technology”, led by USTB and Northeastern University, was chosen to be part of the national “2011 Plan”. In 2017, USTB was selected as one of universities and colleges for the “Double-First Class” initiative, which aims to ultimately build a number of world class universities and disciplines.

As the first Chinese university to establish a formal partnership with a foreign university in 1979, USTB continues to innovate in expanding its global network and opening new programs to better serve its community.

Coverage for International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

The Scholarship provides full coverage on tuition fees, accommodation fees, living allowance (four-week study students excluded) and comprehensive medical insurance expenses.

Application materials

1. Scanned copy of passport photo page.

2. Scanned copies of HSK and hskk performance reports (valid for two years).

3. Letter of recommendation from the person in charge of the recommendation institution.

4. Physical examination report.

5. Final academic certificate or certificate of study (notarized original).

6. Final academic transcript.

7. Certificate of no criminal record.

8.Economic Guarantee Letter.

9.Study plan.

Eligibility

1.Non-Chinese citizens.

2. Should be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school.

3.In good physical and mental conditions, and with a good record of academic performance and conduct.

4.Aspiring to work in the Chinese language education and related fields.

5.The age range is 16-35 years old (calculated based on September 1st of the enrollment year).

Types of scholarships available

1.Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study

The programme commences in September every year, and provides scholarship for a maximum of eleven months. International students who have benefited from similar scholarships are not eligible.  

For the area of TCSOL, applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.For the area of Chinese Language Study, applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK test (Level 3). Priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSKK test score.

2.Scholarship for One-Semester Study

The programme commences either in September or March every year, and provides scholarship of a maximum of five months. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.

For the areas of TCSOL, etc., applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.

Application Procedures

Please log on to search for recommending institutions and host institutions; upload application materials online; and track the application progress, comments and results. Scholarship holders need to confirm with the host institutions to go through the procedures of studying in China, print out the scholarship certificate online, and register at host institutions on the designated date as per the letter of admission.The first choice of the receiving university is University of Science and Technology Beijing

Register and log in, select Chinese Language students, select International Chinese language Teacher Scholarships, fill in information, upload materials, and complete the application.

The Application Deadlines (Beijing Time)

1.Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study

For programmes commencing in September, applicants must complete their applications before 15th,May, and recommending institutions and host institutions must complete reviewing before 25th,May.

2.Scholarship for One-Semester Study

For programmes commencing in September, applicants must complete their applications before 15th,May, and recommending institutions and host institutions must complete reviewing before 25th,May.

For programmes commencing in March of the following year, applicants must complete their applications before 15th November of this year, and recommending institutions and host institutions must complete reviewing before 25th November of this year.

Policies Regarding Currently Employed Chinese Language Teachers and Chinese Bridge Award Recipients

1.Currently employed Chinese language teachers

Currently employed Chinese language teachers applying for the scholarships can be exempted from submitting Chinese Language Proficiency Test (HSK) certificates if they can provide proof of employment and a letter of recommendation from the institution where they work.

2.Chinese Bridge Award Recipients

Applicants who have won the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate in various Chinese Bridge competitions should submit their application documents along with their scholarship certificates to relevant host institutions on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website.
